Five Reasons We Love Swimming Pools

In preparation for this year’s National Swimming Pool Day, we have compiled a list of our top five reasons why we love swimming pools.

There are so many reasons to love your swimming pool, these are just a few of our favorites!

1. Presents a Fun Fitness Opportunity for the Family

Swimming in the pool is a great way to stay fit, and a fun way to exercise as a family! It can be especially motivating to exercise when you can do it from the comfort of your home, and we think this is a huge plus to having a swimming pool in your backyard.

The pool is also an excellent way to help your kids stay healthy and fit over the summer. Often your kids may end up spending two to five hours in the pool on a summer day, or sometimes even longer, which translates into a two to five hour workout they didn’t even know they were doing!

2. Helps Encourage Your Kids to Swim Earlier in Life father holding his toddler daughter up in the air in the pool

Another reason we love swimming pools is because they encourage your children to swim at an earlier age. The earlier your children become comfortable with swimming, the earlier they will understand the importance of water safety around both pools and natural bodies of water.

Having a swimming pool at home allows you to teach your children how to swim, on your own time, and at your own pace. This creates a personalized learning environment for your children, encouraging them to learn at their own pace, starting at an earlier age.

3. Serves as a Great Environment for Hosting Summer Gatherings

Swimming pools provide a great environment for summer gatherings of any kind. Nothing beats inviting a couple friends over for a poolside afternoon!

Hosting summer gatherings by the pool can be a great way to add a twist to an otherwise traditional summer house party. Encourage your friends and family to bring their bathing suits and hang out by the pool!

4. Creates an Outdoor Resort Right at Home

We also love swimming pools because they encourage us to rest and relax! There is something about a quiet day by the pool that almost feels like a day at a tropical resort.

Give yourself the gift of relaxation and spend some of your free time lounging by the pool alone. This might be the vacation you’ve been waiting for, the only difference is you’re right in your own backyard!

5. Encourages Togetherness and Family Time Without Distractions

Finally, we love swimming pools because they encourage uninterrupted togetherness. The pool is fun for the whole family, and it helps take us away from other things that may be distracting us from each other!

Let’s be honest, who can deny a cool-off in the pool on a hot summer day? Add a backyard swimming pool to the equation and you have the perfect recipe for some uninterrupted, at-home family fun.

Pool Scouts Partners with Hope Floats Foundation to Provide Swim Lessons

In celebration of Water Safety Month, Pool Scouts franchisees raised money throughout the month of May to provide swim lessons to children who otherwise would not be able to afford them. Each participating franchisee donated $1 per pool cleaning in May to Hope Floats Foundation, a non-profit organization which aims to protect every child’s life from drowning. The donations raised will go towards providing swimming lessons to underprivileged children in each franchisee’s individual territory.

We are proud to announce that with the help of our Pool Scouts locations and a very generous corporate donation match from Hope Floats Foundation owner Cindy Tonnesen and husband Dave, we were able to raise $16,630! This will provide nearly 800 swim lessons to children so that they can learn the valuable life-saving skill of swimming.

How Water Safety Month Started

Water Safety Month is an annual awareness campaign that occurs each May and focuses on promoting the importance of water safety for children and adults alike. This campaign began with the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals who hoped to raise awareness about water safety and to help all children and their families to have positive and safe experiences around the water.

“We couldn’t be more proud to partner with Hope Floats and are thrilled with the results we saw for our 2021 campaign,” said Pool Scouts president Michael Wagner. “Water safety is obviously extremely important to us and we’re always looking for ways to make our communities and neighbors more safe when it comes to enjoying the water.”

The Startling Statistics

The leading cause of death in children under the age of 5 and the second leading cause of death in children under 14 is drowning. Hope Floats Foundation has made it their mission to teach less fortunate children about the potential dangers of swimming, to teach them water safety and safe swimming practices.

Swimming pools account for at least 75% of drowning deaths in children under 15, so Pool Scouts has made it a priority to spread awareness about the importance of learning to swim, providing a safe environment for all families.

Pool Scouts is Committed to Changing Those Stats

Pool Scouts works alongside Hope Floats Foundation to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn to swim.
