Dive Into Fall Fun in Raleigh, NC!

Over the last couple months of summer, we’ve been so excited to watch Pool Scouts begin to expand across the nation, offering quality pool cleaning services to customers across multiple states.

One of our first franchise locations to open this year is in Raleigh, North Carolina so we thought it would be fun to share some fun facts about Raleigh in this month’s blog post. For example, did you know there are approximately 7,000 pools in Raleigh?  And as you expand across the Greater Triangle Area that number jumps up to almost 15,000 pools!  Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina and also known as the “City of Oaks” for its many oak trees – which means a lot of leaves making their way into all those pools across the city!  Guess it’s a good thing we’ve made our way into town.

Another interesting fact about Raleigh is that folks from all over the country converge in the city this time of year. While the fall season is marked with visits to small town pumpkin patches and rural apple orchards, Raleigh hosts one of the largest and longest running fairs in the country! The annual North Carolina State Fair, held the second week in October, is a spectacle you don’t want to miss. Having in lived in North Carolina myself, I can attest that it is fun event worth the visit!

If you need more of an incentive to check it out, here are some interesting facts about the NC State Fair that might peak your interest:

1. The NC Fair has been running since 1853, giving it a long legacy of 163 years! It has only failed to take place six times in its history for reasons surrounding the Civil War and World War II – understandable. During the 1870s and 1880s, the mills in the area would close their doors so the workers could attend the fair. It has been held in its current location since 1928.
2. The fair runs for eleven days straight. Exhibits include:
   • Antique Farm Machinery: displays of vintage farming tools including traditional spinning wheel and antique trackers.
   • Field of Dreams: This gives grown-ups and kids the chance to experience what it’s like to be a farmer, offering them the opportunity to take part in the “farm to table” experience.
   • Heritage Circle: Always been fascinated by wood carving or blacksmithing? The Circles offers fairgoers a chance to step back in time and see these activities in action.
   • The State Fair Ark: Just as it sounds, the Ark has all sorts of championship animals on display: cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, etc.
   • Village of Yesteryear: One of the more popular sights at the fair, the Village features artists and crafters from all over selling their wears.
3. In addition to the various exhibits that offer you a taste of history, there are numerous competitions and loads of fun entertainment. There are horse shows, baking contests, concerts, fireworks, carnival rides, and more.

The description above provides an overview of the fair, but doesn’t really do it justice. There is so much to see and do, you won’t be disappointed! My favorite part by far is the fried dough!
