{"id":160890,"date":"2025-09-15T13:56:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T13:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/poolscouts.com\/southfortworth\/?page_id=160890"},"modified":"2025-09-15T13:56:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T13:56:10","slug":"winter-pool-maintenance-in-texas","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/poolscouts.com\/southfortworth\/winter-pool-maintenance-in-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Pool Maintenance in Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Pool<strong>\u00a0Maintenance During Winter Freezes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When freezing temperatures come to the Fort Worth area, here\u2019s what we recommend to prepare your pool and avoid preventable damages.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It is NOT necessary to run your pool heater during a freeze.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If you have a freeze guard,\u00a0<\/strong>it is designed to activate when the ambient temperature gets low.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep the pool equipment running<\/strong>. When there is a hard freeze, keeping the water moving helps the water keep from freezing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make sure the pool water isn\u2019t low<\/strong>. Add water before the freezing weather hits. Proper water level is needed so that the pool pump stays primed. The pump can lose its prime in low water levels. If your water hose has already frozen, you can\u2019t add water to the pool so add water ahead of time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you lose power for an extended time period,\u00a0<\/strong>drain your equipment before it freezes. Do NOT drain your pool, only the pool equipment. Locate the equipment\u2019s drain plugs ahead of time so you can avoid searching for them in the dark or icy conditions. You should drain equipment that holds water, such as pumps, booster pumps, heaters and filters. If you have a heat pump or salt cell, simply loosen their plumbing unions.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>TIP:\u00a0<\/strong>put all drain plugs in your pump basket to prevent losing them!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turn off the power to the equipment if you drain it due to power outage.\u00a0<\/strong>You do not want the equipment to restart on its own when the power is restored.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consider covering your equipment with a tarp to retain warmth.<\/strong>\u00a0However: covering equipment is not necessary if you maintain power, and could pose a fire risk if near a heat source or wiring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4161\" style=\"border-radius: 15px;\" src=\"https:\/\/poolscouts.com\/northfortworth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2021\/12\/PS_Slider_Seasonal-Closed.png\" alt=\"Swimming pool covered in snow\" width=\"550\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Contact us with Question or for Freeze Service \/ Repairs<\/h3>\n<p>If you experience a power loss at your pool, whether due to blackout or from turning the system off yourself, make sure all pool equipment has been shut off and the circuit breakers to your equipment have also been turned off.
