Pool Scouts Partners with Hope Floats Foundation to Provide Swim Lessons
In celebration of Water Safety Month, Pool Scouts franchisees raised money throughout the month of May to provide swim lessons to children who otherwise would not be able to afford them. Each participating franchisee donated $1 per pool cleaning in May to Hope Floats Foundation, a non-profit organization which aims to protect every child’s life from drowning. The donations raised will go towards providing swimming lessons to underprivileged children in each franchisee’s individual territory.
We are proud to announce that with the help of our Pool Scouts locations and a very generous corporate donation match from Hope Floats Foundation owner Cindy Tonnesen and husband Dave, we were able to raise $16,630! This will provide nearly 800 swim lessons to children so that they can learn the valuable life-saving skill of swimming.
How Water Safety Month Started
Water Safety Month is an annual awareness campaign that occurs each May and focuses on promoting the importance of water safety for children and adults alike. This campaign began with the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals who hoped to raise awareness about water safety and to help all children and their families to have positive and safe experiences around the water.
“We couldn’t be more proud to partner with Hope Floats and are thrilled with the results we saw for our 2021 campaign,” said Pool Scouts president Michael Wagner. “Water safety is obviously extremely important to us and we’re always looking for ways to make our communities and neighbors more safe when it comes to enjoying the water.”
The Startling Statistics
The leading cause of death in children under the age of 5 and the second leading cause of death in children under 14 is drowning. Hope Floats Foundation has made it their mission to teach less fortunate children about the potential dangers of swimming, to teach them water safety and safe swimming practices.
Swimming pools account for at least 75% of drowning deaths in children under 15, so Pool Scouts has made it a priority to spread awareness about the importance of learning to swim, providing a safe environment for all families.
Pool Scouts is Committed to Changing Those Stats
Hope Floats Foundation has committed itself to changing these overwhelming statistics by providing lessons to children whose families are unable to provide them with swimming lessons. Pool Scouts works alongside Hope Floats Foundation to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn to swim.
We recognize that the ability to swim is one of the most valuable skills to promote a safe, happy life for your children, and we take great pride in the work that we do with Hope Floats Foundation to make this a reality.
